Global Alliance SDG Accord co Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges UK

Overview

The EAUC represents institutions with over 2 million students and nearly
400,000 staff with a spending budget of over £25 billion. We exist to
lead and empower the post-16 education sector to make sustainability
'just good business'.

The EAUC is a lead partner in the Global Alliance which unites the world's university and college sustainability networks. Together, members of the Global Alliance have created the SDG Accord. Researching and advancing the Accord is the focus of this project.

Mission

The purpose of the SDG Accord is twofold:

First, it is to inspire, celebrate and advance the critical role that education has in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the value it brings to governments, business, and wider society.

Secondly, the Accord is a commitment that learning institutions are making to
one another to do more to deliver the goals, to annually report on each
signatory's progress, and to do so in ways that share the learning
with one another both nationally and internationally. An objective is
that sector SDG reporting metrics will be presented at the annual UN
High Level Political Forum.

Impact

The Accord is 9 months old and will make its first report to the UN High Level Political Forum in July. Already there are 700 signatures and a significant resource base being formed to support the global sector.
