    Thomas Stanton

Advances in solar+batteries and human-powered generators are making it practical for hundreds of tools and appliances to operate without traditional electric grids. In the developing world, there are already millions of these stand-alone energy systems and projections call for over 200 million more remote mini- or micro-grids to serve as many as a billion people. Plus, in the parts of the world that already have access to electric grids, there are still many needs for portability and high-reliability and resilience that can be met by off-grid products and services. This project focuses on additional developments of appropriate technologies for meeting these needs.

    Please read more below . . .

    The Problem this Project Addresses

An estimated 1.2 billion people still lack access to even the most basic energy services, so there are dozens of efforts around the world to bring safe and reliable systems powered by solar plus batteries, human power, and other renewable energy sources at very small scales. Plus, in those parts of the world where there already is widespread access to traditional electricity grids, there are still unmet needs for portability and high-reliability and resilience, that can be cost-effectively met using the same kinds of small energy systems. Standardizing designs while meeting strict quality assurance requirements is one way to help these markets grow rapidly.

Region or Country Benefited by this Project

Any and all regions and countries could benefit.
